Choosing a Venue

Updated: Mar 6, 2019

Where to get married or have the reception is a big decision when it comes to wedding planning. It is an expensive part of the wedding and often has to be chosen months in advance. A wedding venue in can cost thousands of dollars. When we were planning my daughter's wedding we looked at wedding venues that cost $2500, $3000, and $7000 just to rent the building. Some of those didn't include chairs and tables for the wedding and reception. We also had to provide all of the table linens and decorations. We could provide our own catering, but one venue said we had to use their drink service if we wanted to serve alcohol at an additional cost. She ended up with a small hotel venue that was just opening up for $1500. It was in the country, but it was nice because guests could rent rooms for the night and not have to drive anywhere after the party.

There are many options out there. If you're getting married at a church, you might choose the church reception hall for your reception. You might choose your local VFW, or Mason's lodge. Many hotels, and museums offer spaces for rent.
